In the run-up to International Yoga Day, which will be celebrated on June 21, celebrities and leaders from all walks of life have been actively promoting yoga and the big role it has played in their life. One of the most active supporters of yoga has been our very own Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who practices it religiously.
Talking of its many benefits, Narendra Modi has been releasing videos, demonstrating some very effective yoga poses. Just recently, he shared a video of Surya Namaskar, which is one of the most popular and helpful yoga poses. Not only does it play a big part in de-stressing you and working out major muscles in the body, it is something everybody should try.
Take a look at this video to get some inspiration:
In a step-by-step process, PM Modi’s animated version can be seen demonstrating the yoga pose and showing all the asanas correctly. The caption reads, “Have you made Surya Namaskar a part of your routine?”
Surya Namaskar is one yoga pose which boosts overall wellness and keeps you afloat as well. It also promotes holistic healing.
Involving 12 specific asanas, it is a way of showing gratitude to the sun and bringing your body and mind together. Most beneficial when performed early morning or during sunset, the posture is extremely helpful to unwind and recharge your body. Practicing Surya Namaskar involves a set of controlled breathing, forward bends, and postures, which release toxins and calm you internally. However, there are plenty of more benefits the yoga asana has to offer.
Considered to be one of the most difficult ones to master, Surya Namaskar, if done correctly, can also promote good blood flow, work out your cardiovascular muscles as well as aid weight loss. The most important pose in Surya Namaskar- the prayer pose or pranamasana is an excellent exercise for the lower body. As you align your feet together and keep your hands folded, it connects the left hemisphere of the brain to the right one and improves connections to important body receptors in the legs, hips and the back. Since it is also an exercise which focussed on controlled breathing, the inhaling and exhaling process keeps the body oxygenated and eliminate toxins from the body. What it also does is put considerable pressure on the abdominal walls around the stomach area and the intestine, exercise those muscles around the belly area, tone the and hence, also aid weight loss. Promoting holistic healing from the inside, regular practice of sun salutations can solve many of your problems, keeping you healthy and fit.
For people of older ages or with limited mobility, practicing variations like chair Surya Namaskar also offers great help, strengthening the slowing muscles and joins and making you flexible.
Surya Namaskar also helps ensure that your digestion stays on tracks since the blood flows well through the abdominal bends as you bend down and exercise those muscles. Apart from this, regular exercising can also give you glowing skin, lesser aches, and pain, keep anxiety away, detox and also cope with sleep trouble.
It is one of the best ways to keep your body naturally free and safe from toxins, diseases and youthful for a long time. Try it now!
The animated version of PM Modi also talks about the many dos and dont’s of doing this exercise. There are certain precautions you should take:
– Make sure your weight is distributed evenly while performing this asana to avoid strains and spasms.
– Avoid doing Surya Namaskar post meals. Wait for at least 2-3 hours. Also, do not drink water immediately after the exercise.
– People who suffer from high blood pressure problem, Hernia, back problems like Spondylitis or Arthritis should not practice Suryanamaskar. Excessive pressure on the muscles can lead to problems.
